1. Start With a Sofa

When you're working with a blank canvas, it can be difficult to decide where to start. Start with the sofa! Usually the largest piece of furniture in the room, it's easiest to plan your layout around the sofa. When it comes to positioning, consider your lifestyle - do you love hosting parties? Are you a movie connoisseur? Do you have a large family? These are all things to consider when finding the right sofa and working with placement.

2. Lighting & Accessories

Light and accessories can make or break even the best interior design. Usually it’s the last thing people think about. Lamps and accessories can add dimension and colour. When it comes to lamps, make sure you choose something that has an extraordinary, unusual design – one that calls attention and creates mood. Same method works for accessories! Accessories done right, can add the perfect amount of colour, texture and personality.

3. Add Shine

The easiest way to elevate your space is to add eye-catching shine, such as crystal accessories, bronze furniture, or statement furniture made of brass or stainless steel. These jaw-dropping pieces will leave your guests in awe the moment they step into your space.

4. Add Pattern

To elevate your space one step up, add attractive and unusual patterns, colour, and designs to pillows, throws and accent chairs. Opt for colourful designs that will turn your furniture and accessories into a beautiful work of art.

5. Colour

If you want your décor to stand out, combine basic neutrals with colourful patterns that are aesthetically pleasing. This way, you can change up your space dramatically every year without repainting or buying all new furniture.

6. Don't Leave Out Consoles

Making a house a home relies on the details. Consoles are perfect adding personal touches like displaying photos, artwork, vases or fresh flowers. With the potential for displaying so much personality, consoles are a great addition to any living space!

7. Rule of Thirds

Three is most definitely a magic number when it comes to design – as are odd numbers in general. Grouping cushions, vases, pictures or candles, creates a level of visual interest. Think 1, 3, 5...

8. Built in Bookshelf Design

Learning the art of display makes the difference between storage and a beautiful feature. Do not overcrowd the space, choose accessories in the same colour and group items together in odd numbers. Display books both horizontally and vertically for interest. Aim for 2/3 books, 1/3 accessories and make sure to include plants as well!

9. Layer Textures

So Simple but makes a huge difference. Taking things in the same tones, same colour family but selecting these pieces based on their texture. This creates a rich feeling and inviting atmosphere without being loud. Combining, metal, fabric, leather and stone correctly can transform a space.
